Islamia University of Bahawalpur Advocates for Cholistan Protection on World Wildlife Day

BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 4th Mar, 2026) The Islamia University of Bahawalpur marked World Wildlife Day with a reinforced commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran, in his address, underscored the significance of preserving our natural heritage. He urged both students and faculty to embrace sustainable practices and actively engage in wildlife conservation efforts.

Particularly, he highlighted the imperative to protect ecologically significant regions such as Cholistan, reaffirming the university’s dedication to environmentally responsible research aimed at fostering a greener future.

In observance of the day, the Institute of Forest Sciences within the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment organised a series of activities. The celebrations commenced with a seminar titled ‘Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods.’ This seminar focused on the vital role such plants play in human health, the preservation of traditional knowledge, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.

Prof Dr Muhammad Rafay, Director of the Institute of Forest Sciences, welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of the sustainable use of natural resources for both present and future generations.

Irsa Irshad from the Wildlife Department, Government of Punjab, delivered a keynote address that highlighted the role of environmental institutions in safeguarding ecosystems. She also encouraged community involvement and youth engagement in conservation initiatives.
