Korea to Host Inaugural Prix Galien Awards in Recognition of Pharmaceutical Innovations

The Gallien Foundation is set to celebrate pharmaceutical advancements with the inaugural “Prix Galien Korea Awards” on September 10, 2023, at the prestigious Shilla Hotel in Seoul. This event marks Korea as the first Asian country to establish such an honour, preceding Japan and China.

The award ceremony will coincide with the World Knowledge Forum, drawing notable figures from the pharmaceutical industry, including past Nobel Prize laureates and former executives from leading global pharmaceutical companies. These esteemed guests will not only partake in the awards ceremony but will also contribute to the accompanying Gallien Forum as speakers.

Anticipation within the industry is palpable as stakeholders await the announcement of nominees for Korea’s first Gallien Award. An industry representative remarked, “As many global blockbuster drugs have won this award, just being nominated is meaningful in recognising their competitiveness on the international stage. Winning could provide significant symbolism and valuable networking opportunities alongside global firms.”

The Gallien Foundation is expected to unveil detailed application criteria this month. Applications will be accepted online via the official website of the Gallien Foundation. The awards will feature three to five categories, including the Best Biotech Product Award and the Best Pharmaceutical Product Award, focusing on individual products approved for marketing between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2025.

The selection process will be conducted at the product level rather than the corporate level, allowing a wider array of entries from various sectors. Exhibitors will also have the opportunity to gain global recognition, as product introductions will be included in the official program book, known as the “Golden Book,” for the 2026 Awards ceremony. A 30-second introductory video for each candidate product will be screened during the ceremony.

Moreover, winners in the product categories will benefit from additional exposure opportunities, including a one-month feature in interview videos on the official Gallien website. This initiative aims to highlight innovations within the pharmaceutical sector and foster connections across the industry.

The Prix Galien Korea Awards represent a significant milestone in recognising outstanding contributions to human health and innovation. As the event approaches, the focus remains on celebrating the advancements that continue to improve lives globally.
