The newly launched Taara Beam product aims to revolutionise online connectivity by offering speeds comparable to fibre optics, but transmitted through the air. This technology is designed to provide high-bandwidth connectivity across various environments, including urban rooftops, enterprise campuses, and live event venues.
At the heart of the Taara Photonics Platform is a compact photonic module, roughly the size of a finger, which integrates the core functionalities of traditional communication systems. This innovative module utilises an optical phased array that houses over a thousand miniature light emitters. Such technology enables the electronic tracking, shaping, and steering of light beams, significantly reducing the dependency on bulky mechanical systems. This shift paves the way for a more scalable, solid-state architecture.
Taara Beam marks the inaugural product developed from this photonics platform. It transmits data using invisible beams of near-infrared light, akin to that employed in fibre optic cables, but does so wirelessly. The system offers an impressive bidirectional throughput of up to 25 Gbps over distances of up to 10 kilometres, all while maintaining ultra-low latency.
One of the standout features of Taara Beam is its ease of deployment. It can be installed on rooftops, poles, or existing infrastructure within a matter of hours, eliminating the need for extensive trenching, spectrum licensing, or right-of-way permits.
Designed with the future in mind, Taara Beam is poised to enhance network density and flexibility. As networks built on this platform evolve, they have the potential to transform into highly distributed, high-capacity mesh systems.
