Niagen Bioscience Launches Innovative Waterless NAD+ Skincare Solution

Key Insights

Niagen Bioscience has unveiled its Skincare Innovation Lab, a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming supplement science into topical skincare innovations. The inaugural product from this lab is NanoCloud, a waterless treatment that delivers a precision dose of NAD+ designed for optimal stability.

The formulation includes patented Niagen (nicotinamide riboside), hyaluronic acid, pullulan, squalane, and vitamin E. This unique powder activates upon being mixed with a water-based serum or moisturiser, resulting in a fresh and effective treatment. Reported benefits include enhanced skin texture, hydration, radiance, and strengthened barrier function.

The launch of NanoCloud aligns with a comprehensive ‘inside-out’ skin health approach, complementing the existing Tru Niagen supplement line. As the global market for NAD+ skincare expands, Niagen Bioscience’s Skincare Innovation Lab stands at the forefront, translating scientific advances from its supplement range into innovative skincare products.

Each product will be launched in limited quantities, allowing the team to gather valuable feedback for future enhancements. The first product, NanoCloud, is contained in a waterless, precision-dose sachet that ensures the formula remains at peak potency, overcoming degradation issues often faced by traditional serums.

The powder formulation features Niagen, a high-quality NAD+ precursor, alongside squalane, sodium hyaluronate, and vitamin E. When mixed with a suitable water-based serum or moisturiser, the treatment becomes a powerful topical solution.

Designed to work synergistically with the Tru Niagen and Tru Niagen Beauty supplements, NanoCloud aims to provide an integrated approach to skin health. The brand claims benefits such as improved texture, deep hydration, enhanced radiance, and a fortified skin barrier.

Expert Insights from Niagen Bioscience

In a recent discussion, Dr Andrew Shao, PhD, Senior Vice President of Regulatory & Scientific Affairs at Niagen Bioscience, elaborated on the rationale behind the choice of ingredients for NanoCloud.

“At the core of Niagen NanoCloud is Niagen, the most scientifically validated NAD+ precursor currently available. It is the same ingredient found in our Tru Niagen supplements and is supported by over 40 human clinical trials, more than 500 peer-reviewed publications, and in excess of 300 academic research partnerships. Niagen was selected for its topical formulation due to its role in supporting key cellular processes essential for skin health, such as energy production, repair, and resilience, ultimately contributing to a smoother and more radiant complexion over time,” Dr Shao explained.

To enhance the effectiveness of the treatment, each ingredient was meticulously chosen:

  • Hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate): Provides deep hydration, making skin appear plumper and more refreshed.
  • Pullulan: Instantly smooths and refines skin for a lifted appearance.
  • Squalane: A vitamin E derivative known for its antioxidant properties, offering lightweight nourishment that keeps skin soft and hydrated.
  • Vitamin E: Offers antioxidant protection, contributing to healthy and radiant skin.

When discussing the topical application of NAD+, Dr Shao noted, “NAD+ is vital for cellular energy and repair, processes critical to maintaining healthy skin. Niagen NanoCloud presents Niagen in a topical, waterless format, preserving its efficacy until application and integrating cutting-edge NAD+ research into a skincare regimen aimed at enhancing cellular health.”

Regarding the product’s unique format, Dr Shao stated, “The design of Niagen NanoCloud addresses a significant challenge in NAD+ skincare: ingredient stability. Traditional water-based formulas can lead to the degradation of NAD+ precursors like Niagen, reducing their effectiveness over time. Our NanoCloud sachets utilise a waterless nanofibre delivery system made from pullulan and hyaluronic acid, safeguarding Niagen until it is ready for use. When combined with a small amount of a water-based serum or moisturiser, the system activates, releasing a fresh and precise treatment. This method not only preserves potency but also allows users to tailor the texture and concentration of their application, promoting enhanced skin texture, hydration, and radiance while supporting long-term skin health.”
