New Funding Initiatives to Enhance Artificial Intelligence in Europe

The European Commission has initiated two new funding calls under the ‘Digital, Industry and Space’ cluster of the Horizon Europe Work Programme, with an impressive allocation of €307.3 million aimed at bolstering Europe’s digital innovation and competitiveness.

Of the total funding, 72% is dedicated to fostering the development of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, innovative data services, and enhancing the strategic autonomy of the European Union. This funding will support projects in various domains including Artificial Intelligence, robotics, quantum technologies, photonics, virtual worlds, and the Open Internet Stack Initiative. The remaining 28% will focus on advancing next-generation Artificial Intelligence agents, robotics applications, and the development of advanced materials.

These funding calls are strategically designed to reinforce Europe’s leadership in key digital technologies through sustainable and human-centric innovation. Applications are welcomed from businesses, public authorities, and research organisations, with a submission deadline set for 15 April 2026.
