# Responsible Quantum Technologies, *before the systems land.*

A workshop on the ethical and societal implications of quantum computing for researchers developing the next generation of systems. Built for quantum CDTs and research groups working at the frontier, with anticipatory thinking applied to a field still being shaped.

How to take this course

### Commission it for *your cohort.*

ORBIT paid courses are delivered bespoke for groups: cohort size, dates, exercises and case studies are tailored before delivery. We do not sell individual seats. Tell us what you are planning and we will reply within one working day with a suggested fit and a fixed quote.

### Have an *access code?*

If your organisation has already commissioned this course and given you an ORBIT access code, you can open your lessons straight away. No account, no sign-up - the code unlocks the courses chosen for you.

## *What* the workshop delivers.

Quantum technologies sit at the point where research, product and policy choices are still open. The workshop applies the AREA framework to anticipatory thinking about quantum computing's wider consequences, with worked examples drawn from current quantum research programmes and the policy environment shaping them.

### Learning outcomes

- **01**Recognise the ethical, social and economic implications quantum technologies could give rise to.
- **02**Apply AREA's anticipate and reflect verbs to current quantum research projects.
- **03**Engage publics and stakeholders affected by quantum systems before deployment closes the design space.
- **04**Articulate the wider responsibilities of quantum researchers to research culture and policy.

## *Who* the course is for.

PhD students and post-doctoral researchers in quantum CDTs, quantum research groups in physics and computer science, and the engagement leads inside research offices managing institutional quantum strategy.

Our researcher Carolyn Ten Holter leads on responsible quantum technologies at ORBIT, with field expertise in how RRI applies to emerging technologies still in formation.
