ORBIT delivers training at four scales, all built around the same AREA framework foundation and all scoped to the group and discipline in the room:
Single workshop
One day for an incoming PhD cohort, a research group or a faculty training event. The most common entry point.
Multi-session programme
Two or three sessions threaded through a CDT's academic year, with action-learning between sessions.
Annual residential module
Half-day or full-day RRI module inside a CDT's annual residential, summer school or away day.

How is ORBIT priced, and why is pricing bespoke?
ORBIT is a UK not-for-profit, so our pricing reflects delivery cost rather than commercial margin. Fees depend on cohort size, number of days, location and the degree of customisation. Most CDT engagements sit within standard EPSRC training budgets. We provide a written quote within a few working days of an initial conversation, with no obligation to proceed.
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend enquiring six to twelve weeks before your preferred delivery date, particularly for residentials in the summer term. Shorter lead times can sometimes be accommodated, especially for one-day workshops at host institutions we already work with.
What is the minimum and maximum cohort size?
Cohorts of fifteen to forty participants work best for the AREA framework exercises. We have run sessions for smaller research groups (six to ten) and full-department training days for forty-plus on request.
Can you tailor the course to a specific discipline?
Yes, and this is the default rather than an upgrade. Every commission is scoped to the group in advance. We fold in case studies, examples and exercises that match the research themes you tell us about.
Do you travel to us, or do students travel to you?
We travel to you. The default is in-person delivery at your institution, at a residential venue you choose, or at a multi-CDT consortium event. Travel and accommodation costs for the facilitator are included in the written quote.
How do we evidence the training to UKRI or EPSRC?
Each cohort receives a written summary of the workshop, the AREA framework outputs they produced and a participation record. CDT directors and research office managers can cite ORBIT delivery, cohort size, AREA coverage and outputs directly in UKRI and EPSRC reporting. Happy to provide a short evidencing note on request.
